Arkansas Special Olympics
Did you know that the Arkansas Special Olympics sponsors 15,000 athletes state wide- including 500 in Washington, Benton, and Madison counties?
Approximately 1 in 6 families is touched by Special Olympics through donors, athletes, and volunteers.
Talk about a statistic. Special Olympics Arkansas offers 20 different sports training and competition opportunities to athletes ranging from 8 to over 80 years old. Special Olympics Arkansas currently runs 240 competitions throughout the state year-round. Special Olympics sports bring out pride, courage and joy in athletes—while inviting families and entire communities to join in the celebration. Once athletes compete in their county, they can progress to the state level, and even the country level creating a greater sense of confidence and ability. (In case you were wondering, the 2010 Arkansas Olympic team consisted of 110 athletes and brought home 167 medals, 71 of those were gold!)
Funds from the Hero Half Marathon goes to support those athletes in Washington, Benton, and Madison counties in Arkansas. This covers the athletes training and competition, leading to a greater sense of accomplishment and confidence. We can’t imagine a greater cause- helping everyone be healthy and happy sounds like a win in our book! By running the Hero Half Marathon, you’re helping Arkansas Special Olympics too. Athletes unite!
