Will I be required to wear a mask?
Masks covering both nose and mouth are required to be worn by both volunteers and racers at all times while not actively running. This includes packet pickup, checking into the race, waiting to cross the start line, using restrooms on the course, immediately crossing the finish line, or any time they are in the start line or finish line zones.
Please note the city of Fayetteville has a mask ordinance and it is mandatory for all persons to wear a mask anytime they are indoors and anytime 6 feet of physical distance cannot be maintained outdoors.
Will social distancing be enforced?
The implementation of controlled and limited corrals plus the point-to-point nature of the half marathon course will keep crowd size small and spread out. Ample start and finish line zone volunteers will be on patrol to enforce masks and 6 feet of physical distance.
Strict start time corrals will be assigned to all runners prior to the start of the race. These corrals will limit the number of gathered persons (including all runners and volunteers) to 30 people. Runners will only be allowed in the corral 5 minutes prior to their start time. Please note this and plan accordingly!
All runners and volunteers will be required to maintain 6 feet of physical distance while in the start and finish line zones.
Are there any health requirements for runners and volunteers?
All volunteers and participants will NOT participate in any “in person” aspects of the Hero Half Marathon on October 25, 2020 if they have:
~ Tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days
~ Have had symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell) in the past 14 days
~ Have had direct contact with any known persons testing positive for COVID-19
~ Have had known direct contact with any persons having had symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell) in the past 14 days
Are there any other health requirements for runners and volunteers?
According to health officials, certain populations are more vulnerable to contracting COVID-19. Please carefully consider participating in person if you are part of these populations:
~ People 65 years of age or older
~ Those with serious underlying health condition such as high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic lung, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, severe obesity or moderate to severe asthma
~ People with weakened immune systems
How early can I arrive at the start line?
Corral times will be assigned. No person will be allowed in the start line zone prior to their specific start time.
Can I go inside Lokomotion while I wait at the start line?
No. The start line will be at the parking lot of Lokomotion Family Fun Park and no volunteer nor runner will be allowed to enter the indoor space at Lokomotion; this includes their restrooms.
Can my friends and family hang out with me at the start and finish line?
No. Non participants will not be allowed inside the marked boundaries for both the start and finish line zones. Physical boundaries will be erected to create start line and finish line zones. Only runners and volunteers will be allowed within these zones.
There will be no parking allowed directly adjacent to the start line zone. A drop-off zone will be established.
What COVID-19 precautions will volunteers at aid stations be taking?
There will be no aid stations on the course. Please note this and plan to carry our own water and nutrition.
Will volunteers help direct traffic?
No, this will be an open course. There will be no volunteers coordinating traffic stops. Please use common sense and follow all rules of the road whilst running. Please view the course map for the 5 road crossings, and note the areas of “open road.” There will be ample signage to direct you, but please review the map for yourself ahead of time.
Will there be a celebration event at the finish line?
No. Upon completing your race, please put on your mask and exit the finish line zone immediately. The finish line for the half marathon distance will be at the Walton Arts Center parking lot in downtown Fayetteville. The finish line for the quarter marathon and relay will be on the trail adjacent to Lokomotion Family Fun Park. Please see the course map for details.
Do I have to sign anything?
Yes, all volunteers and runners are required to read and sign our COVID-19 waiver. We will email that to you at a later date.
What if I still don't feel safe?
Any runner not wanting to comply with these directives or who feels unsafe to run on race day will always have the option to complete the race virtually.
