When is the 2020 Hero Half Marathon?

The 2020 Hero Half Marathon is set for Sunday, October 25 at 8:00 am in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Who organizes the Hero Half Marathon?

The Spark Foundation organizes and produces the annual the Hero Half Marathon in partnership with the Fayetteville Firefighters' Association. Spark is a nonprofit organization that strives to create a positive impact in the community by providing increased access to health and fitness education and opportunities. In addition to our annual race series, the Spark Foundation supports running clubs in local schools through coaching, curriculum, and healthy snacks. The Spark Foundation supports pioneering projects around health and fitness through its keystone fund with Fayetteville Public Education Foundation as well as mini-grants for area schools and clubs. When you run, remember that you are helping NWA to build the habits for an active, healthy lifestyle.

Is there Hero Half Marathon merchandise available for purchase?

Yes, we have last year's long sleeve tech tees available for purchase online: here to browse or purchase.

We will also have Hero Half water bottles, pint glasses, and limited tanks available for purchase. Depending on availability, we will have this year's shirt for purchase ($30).

I am a very slow runner/walker. Will I feel out of place?

You won’t feel out of place at all! Our races are planned for participants of all ages, paces, and abilities.

We do have a course time limit, which accommodates a 4-hour finish time. That's about an 18:20/mile pace.

Will I be able to receive a refund or transfer my race registration if I’m unable to participate in the Hero Half Marathon?

We follow the standard running industry policy for registration cancellations. All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Are there any training groups?

Yes, more information on our 2020 Training Program with Rise Physical Therapy NWA and Sequoyah Performance Coaching will be available shortly.

In the meantime if you are looking for adult running groups in the area, we highly recommend Ozark Trail Running Club, The Mustache Running Club, and, of course, Columbus House Brewery Running Club.

Will there be pace groups at this race?

Yes, Half Fanatics will be pacing the following finish times: 1:45, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, and 3:00.

Will the course have a “sweeper”?

Yes, we will have a runner or cyclist making sure that everyone stays safe and finishes.

Can I wear headphones?

Yes, but we ask that you keep the volume down at a safe level so that you can hear other runners or instructions from event personnel as well as from other trail users.

Can I bring my dog or run with a stroller?

Yes, well-behaved, trained dogs are welcome to join. Just be sure to keep your furry friends on a non-retractable leash of 5 feet or less and that you bring appropriate supplies to clean up after them.. Strollers are welcome, too! We also ask that anyone running with dogs or strollers start near the back of the pack for the safety of all runners.

Are there bathrooms on the course?

There will be an ample amount of port-a-potties at the start/finish lines. Additionally, there will be a port-a-potty near Mile 6, Mile 8, and the restrooms at Gordon Long Park around Mile 10.

Will there be age group awards?

Yes, the half marathon will have results and awards for all top age group finishers.

The relay, 5K, and one mile do not have age group awards.

When and where should I pick up my race packet?

Packet pickup will be held at the Spark Offices at Mount Sequoyah Center on Saturday, October 12 from 10 am - 6 pm. Head through the main gates at Assembly and Skyline, then follow signs for parking and packet pickup.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes, in order for someone else can pick up your packet for you, they must show proof of your race registration.

Does the race have a gear-check?

Yes, we will have gear-check for the 2020 Hero Half Marathon.

Where should I park the day of the race?

Please park downtown in the City of Fayetteville's entertainment district. All public parking is free until 2:00 pm. Additionally, there are paid lots available.

I’m traveling from out of town for the race. Where should I stay?

The Fayetteville Visitor’s Bureau, Experience Fayetteville, has great information on area hotels. We also highly recommend The Graduate right on the Fayetteville Historic Square in the center of everything or Mount Sequoyah Center for a little retreat.

If I registered to run this year and then find out I can’t run this year, can I transfer my registration to next year?

No, race registrations may not be transferred to future Spark Foundation races.

Is the course USATF certified?

No, the course is not USATF certified but is officially measured using USATF techniques.

What kind of course support do you offer?

There are cheer/water/aid stations along the course at every 1-2 miles.

Can my family and friends meet me at the finish line?

Yes, we encourage family and friends to join you for race day as well as festivities and awards post-race.

Festivities, you say? Yes! From 8 am - 12 pm you can hang out at the Finish Line Festival to cheer on runners of all ages with live music from Sons of Ark, a beer garden from Columbus House Brewery, and of course, the annual Family Fire Safety Fair thanks to the Fayetteville Fire Department. Plus there will be partners, sponsors, vendors, and more!

What happens if it’s raining on the day of the race?

The Hero Half Marathon will be held rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather (i.e. lightning), we will make the safest decision regarding delay or cancellation. Please note that the race registration fee is nonrefundable even if the race is modified or canceled. For any further questions, please contact the race director at

Can I sign up on the day of the race?

There is no race day registration. The last opportunity to sign-up will be at Packet Pick-up the day before. We wish we were able to accommodate last minute requests, but as the race grows, it is important that we have everyone’s information in advance in order to provide the best possible experience and goodies for all runners.
